Shortlist
Designing Hiring Platform
Shortlist.net is an interactive platform meant to unlock your professional potential.
I have created the UX and UI of this platform from scratch, bearing in mind the idea that resumes are
obsolete and that employers no longer have the required time to read through a
long list of educational background, employment history and skills.
In order to create a space which would benefit both the employer and the employee, we thought of Messenger.
Really. Why not have a Messenger-like app on which you can apply for your dream job? Well, now you have it. It’s called Shortlist.
Problem
Hiring is a complex process. Just think about having to send your resume, fill up entire forms and wait for someone to contact you and tell you the answer. It takes ages. This is why we thought it was necessary to do a competitive analysis with a couple of job sites. Then, we realized that there are a lot of pain points for users and that it was about time that we solved them. Here are some of our findings:
Some sites made the applying process very easy, in order to get plenty of resumes in a short time, but the data was not qualitative and even irrelevant.
Forms are too long and confusing. Some of the users complained that they don’t even understand the form’s questions.
Considering our busy schedule, applying for a job is a time-wasting process, as one does not have the necessary time to sit at a desktop every day. On the other hand, applying from a mobile device seems to be a real nightmare.
There is no feedback. Most of the time, an applicant will never get to hear anything about the rejection of his resume.
After applying, you have to wait for a real human to call you and ask you general questions and finally give you the yes/no answer.
My Role
As a design consultant, I have designed their mobile site from scratch and defined the product design strategy. Also, I have successfully delivered the UI Design for mobile phones.
Shortlist is one of its kind. It has a conversational interface which helps users complete the entire process of applying for a job, hassle free. The fun part is that now you can apply from anywhere – while commuting, during a short break or before going to bed.
Users no longer get intimated by looking at hundreds of forms and data points.
Users can apply half way and complete the other half later, once they have free time.
Users now have enough time applying and therefore make less mistakes.
We also simplified the job of the HR departments. The Shortlist platform has a unique way of identifying talents by asking simple questions which gives them a Yes/No rating, deciding whether the candidate fits the role or not.
Conversational Interface Designs
Clutter free forms
Shortlist is all about simplicity, either we talk about usage or design. This is the reason why we chose to use minimal components and colors in the layout. You can see that we used only the brand color – green and white. This made our design clutter free and in this way, we managed to help users focus more on the usability.
Background Information
Forget about writing entire pages about your educational and professional background and having to stylize your resume. Shortlist is here to make your applying experience more relaxing and fun.
While on the platform, talking about your background is just like answering a friend’s questions – not about your day, but about your experience. He poses the right questions and all you have to do is come up with the honest answer.
Quick Feedback
Traditionally, you would have to wait days and days for an HR employee to call you and give you the big news. With Shortlist, you just have to answer all the questions accordingly. After that, the system will instantly offer you a final decision according to the given answers.
Taking Assessments
Shortlist makes life easier for both the applicant and the employer. The platform offers different and unique assessments for every individual and hiring company. For instance, someone applying for a sales position would need analytical and negotiating skills – thus, the assessments are designed accordingly.
One of the perks of Shortlist is that the applicant can record himself talking about his skills according to the dream job, without having to directly get in touch with the HR department, which could take much longer.
Questionnaire and Profiler
Do you remember that somewhere in your resume you have to talk about your personal skills? Well, when it comes to Shortlist, this endeavor of speaking about yourself transforms into a funny quiz, which helps identify your personality and decide either you are or not the perfect candidate for the position you are applying for.
