Set Top Box Designs

Set top box

Vision Asia is a premier pay television service provider addressing the cultural
and entertainment needs of people of South Asian background living in
Australia, New Zealand, Dubai and many other countries.

My Role

I was responsible for coming up with a new re-design strategy which is easier for users to use. Beside building visual language I was also responsible for user stories, flows, wireframes, prototypes, user testing, and interface design.

Challenge

I've got a couple of challenges to face during the redesign process. First of all, lack of visual clarity in the interface. Secondly to create a new visual language which highlights important features, Third, restricting the navigation and flow. Lastly, to get rid of the immature feeling and give VisionAsia brand a more mature appearance.

Solution

I have taken website as a metaphor which is more universal and everyone has used website in a lifetime. Metaphors helps to create a baseline for the design and define character for the project. Our users are non-tech savvy, and middle age so I don’t wanted it to be complex. I wanted users to access content quickly and see more content in a screen plus giving a cinematic experience as well.

Wireframes

Designs started out as rough whiteboard sketches, as we figured out what information was important,
and then evolved into much higher fidelity designs. This allowed us to accurately design for the content
and also provide much more valuable user testing.

Old Designs

Here are some old designs which are for your reference. After talking to users and internal
stake holders I have learn’t that users were unhappy the product has not evolved over
time and users were moving to other providers. Our team has decided to serve
a better product by giving fast and sleek design with more channels.

EPG - Electronic Programming Guide helps users to quickly see past and future programs.
I have re-thought the designs and made it more visual (imagery) because in our users research we got a
finding that it was difficult to read “Local Language” in English. This imagery design would help users to take quick decision
